Friday belongs to the air signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, and the subject is love and connection. This covers every close bond: partners, family, old friends. Four days into the Four of Swords decan of Libra, the last one, which runs from the 13th to the 22nd, the sky still sits in the air signs’ own season. The Golden Dawn title for this stretch is Rest from Strife, ruled by Jupiter in Libra: the rest that follows the cut. The decan post asked everyone to set the real problems on the wall until the 22nd and book the rest like an appointment. On the 23rd Scorpio opens and the suit turns to cups.
Air signs do love by thinking about love. The relationship gets reviewed, compared, explained to a friend, turned over at 1am. That habit is useful until the thinking sits between you and the person who is actually there.
The Card: Four of Cups
The card drawn for the air signs this week is the Four of Cups. It is a water card for air signs, chosen on purpose. In the Golden Dawn system it is the Moon in Cancer, with the title Blended Pleasure: a gentle card, pleasure mixed with something else. Our card page tagline is “The cup being offered goes unnoticed.”
Maybe yours shows a young person sitting under a tree with arms folded, looking down at three cups on the grass in front of them, while a hand reaching out of a small cloud to one side holds out a fourth cup they haven’t noticed. Maybe it’s four cups in two rows, a hand from above holding a lotus stem with one flower at the top, and water pouring from it into the two upper cups, which overflow into the two lower cups, which do not overflow, with two leaves crossing between the four cups. Across every version the shared anchor is the same: four cups, and the attention is on the full ones while something is still being poured, or offered, that isn’t being taken up.
This is the air signs’ second love reading. Back in August, at the end of the Seven of Wands decan, the air signs drew The Lovers. The advice then was to choose once, out loud. The Four of Cups is the week after choosing, when air signs start re-opening the question. The three cups on the grass are the emotional life so far: everything already known about the bond. The fourth is being held out from a cloud. The tree behind is solid. This is a settled person. The problem is the direction of the gaze. You are missing something that is genuinely available because you are looking the wrong way, or because you decided in advance that what’s on offer isn’t what you want. It can also be a needed pause, so the card isn’t scolding. The rest decan gives air a perfect excuse: sitting under the tree is allowed this week. The card agrees. It only asks that the eyes come up. You can rest and still notice the cup.
Blended Pleasure is the pleasure of a bond mixed with the small boredom of it being settled. Air signs read settled as finished. The card says settled is where the pouring happens. In the Golden Dawn picture the top cups overflow into the lower ones, and the lower ones are still filling. Steady love fills slowly from above. Looking at the wrong cups means a friendship that’s already good gets ignored while air signs chase the one that’s a puzzle. Love this week is turning towards what’s being held out, even when it’s plain. The cups are arriving early, ahead of Scorpio. On Monday the water signs drew the Queen of Cups: one cup stays closed, the private joy.
Gemini, you keep three conversations open and miss the one person who’s just waiting for you to look up. Look up. Libra, this is your season and the Moon’s card. You weigh whether an offer is right for so long that the hand gets tired. Take the cup, then decide. Aquarius, you’ve already decided the ordinary offer isn’t your kind of thing. The person holding it out doesn’t know that. Let them finish the sentence.
One Practical Thing for the Week
Once this week, when someone offers something small, a walk, a call, a seat, a question, say yes before the review starts. No analysing it afterwards either. Then notice which of your three known cups you’d been staring at instead.
There’s more on the card in our Four of Cups card meaning. On Monday the fire signs have their reading on money and security. On Wednesday the water signs have theirs on growth and shadow work. On the 23rd Scorpio opens with the Five of Cups. The fourth cup is already there. Look up.
