Monday belongs to the water signs. Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces: this reading is yours, and the subject is creativity and joy.

Today is the last day of the Three of Swords decan of Libra. That period ran from 3 to 12 October. The Golden Dawn called it Sorrow, ruled by Saturn in Libra: the cut that follows the weighing. Honest conversations have stirred the well. Tomorrow, Tuesday 13 October, the Four of Swords opens the last Libra decan, rest after the cut until 22 October. On 23 October Scorpio opens and the suit turns to cups. Saturday was the new moon in Libra and the card drawn was The World. Write one wreath-sized intention, a thing you will finish by the next new moon on 9 November.

The Card: Queen of Cups

The card drawn for the water signs this week is the Queen of Cups. She is a court card from the water signs’ own suit, so water for water. In the Golden Dawn system she is the Moon in Scorpio, a first look at Scorpio season before it opens on the 23rd. Back in August the water signs had a creativity reading with the Three of Cups, in a week when the world felt combative. The advice then was to lower the drawbridge for the right three people, because creativity doesn’t live behind a wall.

Decks paint it two ways and mean one thing. Maybe yours shows a queen on a stone throne at the edge of the sea, the throne carved with mermaids and sea creatures, holding an ornate cup with a lid, her eyes lowered to it, water lapping at her feet. Maybe it’s a crowned queen on a throne with flowing water and lotus flowers beneath, a long-legged water bird with open wings on her crown and the same bird beside her under her hand, a cup in one hand with a crayfish climbing out of it, a lotus in the other, a dreamy face. Across every version she is a seated woman beside the water, holding a cup she is not drinking from, looking at what is in it or at what is inside herself. Our page says she holds the depths without drowning. The cup she holds is closed, unlike any other cup in the deck. She sits at the water’s edge and is not afraid of the water. Her eyes are lowered, attending to what is inside.

Water signs make things from feeling, and feeling is what a week of cuts has been working on. Most respond by either making nothing because it feels too raw, or making everything for someone else: the gift, the fix, the comfort. The Queen makes something and keeps it. Every other cup in the deck is open, pouring, shared. Hers has a lid. For creativity, that is the notebook nobody reads, the song you don’t post, the drawing you don’t explain. For joy, it is the pleasure you don’t justify to anyone. Water signs give away their creative work before it is finished because sharing is how they feel safe. One cup stays closed, and that is where the joy lives.

The Three of Cups in August said open the gate to three people. This week is the other half: three people can see the work; one cup is yours alone. Both are true, and a water sign needs both. She sits at the water’s edge and doesn’t go in. Being with the feeling without being swept off by it is the creative skill of this element at its best, and the thing the last ten days have been training. Moon in Scorpio is water’s deep end, arriving eleven days early: a preview of the season where water signs are at home. The cups are coming back on the 23rd. This card is the first one through the door. Tomorrow is rest with the Four of Swords. The Queen’s lowered eyes fit: the creative thing this week is quiet, inward, unposted. Make it in the rest.

A line for each of you. Cancer, you make things for the people you love and nothing for yourself. This week make one thing nobody will receive. Scorpio, the Queen is your Moon. You keep everything closed, including the good stuff. The lid is right on one cup, so open one other thing you made and let one person see it. Pisces, you share the draft at 2am and regret it by nine. Keep this week’s thing closed until it’s done, and notice that it gets finished.

One Practical Thing for the Week

Try a closed-cup hour. Make one small thing this week: a page, a sketch, a tune, a recipe, a playlist built with care. Tell no one, post nothing, show no one, for seven days. Put it somewhere with a lid, literally if that helps: a box, a folder, a drawer. Notice whether making it felt different when nobody was going to see it. If the wreath-sized intention from Saturday was a creative one, this is the week’s first step on it.

There’s more on the card in our Queen of Cups card meaning. Tomorrow, Tuesday 13 October, the Four of Swords takes the sky for the last Libra decan. Wednesday 14 October brings the earth signs’ reading on career and purpose. One closed cup holds the joy that doesn’t need an audience.
