Wednesday belongs to the water signs. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces get the day for growth and shadow work. Today is the last full day of the Four of Swords decan of Libra, which runs from 13 to 22 October. Its Golden Dawn title is Rest from Strife, ruled by Jupiter in Libra. That means the rest after the cut. The earlier post asked everyone to put the real problems on the wall until the 22nd and book the rest. Tomorrow the wall comes down. On Friday 23 October Scorpio opens, the suit turns to cups, and the Five of Cups takes the sky until 1 November.

Water signs stay. They stay in the friendship that ended years ago in all but name, the job that was right in 2022, the version of themselves that everyone else is used to. They stay because it was real, and leaving feels like saying it wasn’t. The shadow is loyalty past its date. Both things can be true: it was real, and it is done.

The Card: Eight of Cups

The card drawn for the water signs this week is the Eight of Cups. It comes from water’s own suit. In the Golden Dawn system it is Saturn in Pisces, and its title there is Abandoned Success: something that worked, and that you leave anyway. Our card page says walking away was the bravest thing.

Maybe yours shows a cloaked figure with a staff walking away from eight cups stacked at the water’s edge, one gap in the stack, heading uphill towards mountains under a crescent moon at night. Maybe it’s a hand from the clouds holding lotus stems, only two flowers bending over the two central cups and filling them until they run over into the three lowest cups, which are not yet full, while the three top cups stand empty, with Saturn and Pisces marked above and below. Across every version there are eight cups and something unfinished about them, with the attention, or the water, moving away from the full ones.

In August the water signs drew the Five of Cups for shadow work, back in the Eight of Pentacles decan. The grief card went to the zodiac’s grief-keepers. The advice was to name the spilled cup in one plain sentence, then turn for what’s left standing. That same Five of Cups takes the sky on Friday for all of Scorpio’s first decan. This is the water signs’ second shadow-work reading. August asked for the mourning. This week asks for the walk. Three cups spilled then. Now eight stand full, and the figure leaves them full. Some endings are a stack of good things you no longer need.

The gap in the stack is the honest part. Water signs can feel the missing cup from across the room. The shadow move is to keep stacking around the gap instead of naming it. Growth is turning to face the gap and then turning to walk. The figure travels by moonlight, without full certainty. Water signs wait for the feeling to be sure, and the feeling never quite is. The card walks anyway, with a staff, uphill, slowly. Saturn in Pisces is the strict planet in the softest sign. Leaving something good is Saturn’s kind of discipline. Feeling it fully is Pisces’ kind of honesty.

Cancer, the home, group or role you keep alive by yourself is the one where everyone else has already left. Put the staff in your hand. Scorpio, your season starts Friday. The thing you’re done with is the one you’re still watching from a distance. Stop watching and walk. Pisces, you’ll leave in your head and stay in your body for a year. Let the body go first this time, one real step.

One Practical Thing for the Week

Do a stack count. Write down the eight good things in the situation you’re half out of, honestly, full cups only. Then write the one that’s missing. If the missing one is the thing you actually need, take one physical step away before Friday: the message, the unsubscribe, the evening not spent there. Small, by moonlight, no announcement. Keep the list. It’s proof it was real.

There’s more on the card in our Eight of Cups card meaning. Our shadow work practice has the safety rules if you want them. Friday 23 October, Scorpio season opens and the Five of Cups takes the sky. Monday 26 October, the full moon in Taurus. Leave the full cups where they stand and take the walk uphill.
