Wednesday belongs to the earth signs. That means Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, and the subject is career and purpose.
We are two days into the Four of Swords decan of Libra. This is the last of the three Libra periods, running from 13 to 22 October, and its title is Rest from Strife. Jupiter rules it in Libra, pointing to the rest that follows once a cut has been made. Yesterday the calendar asked everyone to write a wall list of the real problems and leave them until the 22nd, a floor list of the one thing you would pick up if it turned urgent, and to book the rest as an appointment. Scorpio opens on 23 October and the suit turns to cups. On Saturday 10 October the new moon in Libra drew The World, which pointed to one clear intention to finish by 9 November.
The Card: Prince of Pentacles
The card drawn for the earth signs this week is the Prince of Pentacles. This is a court card, the young rider rank in the deck, between the Princess and the Queen. It comes from the earth suit, so it is earth for earth. In the system this calendar uses he is Saturn in Earth, the patient planet in the patient element. The page tagline is “Slow. Deliberate. Unstoppable.”
This is the earth signs’ second career reading. Back in August the card was The Hierophant and the advice was to guard less and teach more. Two weeks ago the water signs drew The Chariot for career, which was about steering before the cut. The Prince of Pentacles also rides a chariot, pulled by a bull rather than two sphinxes, so the pace is the bull’s own.
Maybe your deck shows an armoured young rider on a heavy dark workhorse standing still in a ploughed field, holding a single coin out in front of him and looking at it steadily, with no movement anywhere in the picture. Maybe it shows a winged crowned figure seated in a chariot drawn by a bull, a winged bull’s head as his crest, flowered land beneath the chariot, a golden orb held downward in one hand and a sceptre topped with an orb and cross in the other. What every version shares is a figure of the earth suit who is seated and still, holding something of value steadily, with worked ground beneath him.
Earth careers are built the way the card is drawn: slowly, in the same field, year after year. That is the strength. The weakness this decan exposes is that earth signs do not know how to rest inside a career without feeling they have stopped. Rest reads as stalling. The Prince is seated and still, and the ploughed rows behind him show the work is already done. He holds the coin and looks at it, seeing what it is worth without spending it or hiding it. A bull does not sprint and does not stop. That pace keeps an earth career sound, and the rest in this decan stops it turning into something that only works by being driven. The field you have ploughed is now something others can walk on. Your reliability is the thing people lean on, without you taking on their work as well. Jupiter in Libra points to a generous settlement: the career cut many of you made or watched in the previous decan did less damage than it seemed it would. The Prince is the figure still in the saddle afterwards.
Taurus, you keep the job you have because moving is effort. This week the question is whether you are staying because the field is good or because the horse is comfortable. Look at the coin. Virgo, you rest by reorganising. Put the system down for ten days and let the work already done stand without tidying it. Capricorn, the next summit is already in the diary. The Prince is not climbing. Sit for one week with what you have built before you plan the next thing.
One Practical Thing for the Week
Write a ploughed-rows list. Set down what your work has built in the last year, in plain lines, finished things only, no plans. Read it once. Then, for the rest of this decan, add nothing new to the career list. Do the work in front of you at the bull’s pace and leave the next furrow unploughed until the 23rd. If the new moon intention was a career one, this week’s step is to not add to it.
There’s more on the card in our Prince of Pentacles card meaning. On Friday 16 October the air signs have their reading on love and connection. On Monday 19 October the fire signs have theirs on money and security. The rider stays seated, the rows behind him show the work is done, and the bull keeps its steady pace.
