Prince of Wands

The Prince of Wands is fire given wings: he is air and fire combined, intellect and passion moving at speed. He corresponds to the Knight in Rider-Waite traditions and carries all of that archetype's dashing energy: attractive, dynamic, capable of great things, and genuinely difficult to slow down long enough to have a complete conversation. He is the embodiment of inspired action: he does not wait for permission, does not doubt, does not plan at length. He moves. Sometimes brilliantly. Sometimes into walls.

The Prince of Wands in a reading signals bold action, rapid movement, and the exciting but sometimes destabilising arrival of someone or something that changes everything quickly. He can represent a person of great charisma and drive, or the quality of that energy within the querent: the moment when you stop deliberating and simply act. The Prince of Wands rides a fiery, rearing horse, his wand held high, his cloak streaming behind him. He leans forward in the saddle, pressing toward the future at full speed. His armour is often decorated with salamanders or flame motifs. The horse is not fully in control: the Prince does not particularly want it to be. Speed is the point. The dynamic tension between the rearing horse and the forward-leaning rider captures the Prince's essential quality: barely contained energy directed with enough will to keep it moving in one direction.
